The Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Col. Emmy Katabazi, while delivering a lecture to trainees on officer cadet course intake, urged the trainees to be ideologically sound, stating that if one is ideologically shallow, their outlook on life would be narrow.
He made remarks from the 1st Division at Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Recruit Training School-Kaweweta on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
According to Col. Katabazi, Uganda’s interest is to develop through socio-economic transformation to change the country from a group of peasants to an industrial country.
“If you are ideologically shallow, your outlook is narrow. Uganda needs to go through socio-economic transformation by turning resources and crops like cotton into cloth, copper into copper wires, and crude oil into petroleum products,” he said.
Col. Katabazi also urged the cadets to live exemplary lives after their training, as they will be leaders of the men and women under their command.
“My message to you is that you must be exemplary in whatever you do after you finish your course. The way you walk, the way you eat, dress, and talk must be what the other soldiers see. They do not see what is in your head. They do not have a telescope or an X-ray to look inside your head and say that this guy is now an officer. What they will see is how you are dressed, how you talk to them, how you guide them, how you love them, and how you train them,” Col. Katabazi advised.
Col. Katabazi informed the trainees that working together was not an option but a must for the betterment of Uganda.
