The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) (Katonga) leaders have resorted to hoodwinking Ugandans in a bid to seek sympathy instead of speaking the truth about what their 36 supporters were doing in Kenya before security arrested and handed them to Ugandan authorities.
It was established that the 36 FDC members entered Kenya from Uganda, disguising themselves to be going to attend a political training workshop.
According to a source, the group was later found out by the Kenyan authorities that they were being trained in terrorism activities as part of the ‘Tujja’ campaign organized by Col. (Rtd) Kizza Besigye to oust the government of President Museveni.
Kenyan security authorities immediately arrested them; currently, they are in court battling terrorism charges after they were remanded.
The decision by the FDC legislators affiliated with the Katonga group to march to the Kenya High Commission in protest is just to hoodwink Ugandans and seek sympathy.
The same group has created the impression that the suspected terrorists were arrested by Ugandan security agencies in Kenya, which is not the case. They are trying to make a security issue look like political persecution to attract sympathy.
“Their fight against the Najjanankumbi group also hit a dead end after the Nandala-Amuriat group was welcomed with huge crowds in all the regions they have so far visited,” said Moses Kutesa, a renowned FDC stalwart.
Kutesa said Besigye and his team need to understand that times have changed and Ugandans are no longer gullible like they used to be.
He noted that Col. (Rtd) Besigye and other opposition leaders have lied to Ugandans for a long and presented false hopes.
Jerome Jodaga, another FDC supporter in Makindye, said it is also self-defeating for the Katonga group to think that the current regime, with its strong security, will give them a soft landing to destabilize a country that has enjoyed peace and security for almost 40 years now.
“The NRM government has defeated many strong rebel groups like the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), and many other strong bad elements that had tried to destabilize the country; It is therefore foolhardy for the Katonga group to overrate their strength and think they can subvert the country through terrorism,” said Jodaga.
He described it as unfortunate that the same opposition leaders masquerading as working for the people are the ones planning activities aimed at destroying people’s property and lives.
The government should be applauded for thwarting all the anti-people plans by these Katonga people and other bad elements in the name of opposition.
