The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) enforcement alert team, on Wednesday, October 4, impounded Able Beverages Ltd. unstamped juice for violating Section 19A of the Tax Procedures Code Act 2014.

According to the URA Enforcement Team, Able Beverages Ltd. markers of Eden Light Mango Juice were found producing and loading under-declared and stamped bottles of juice onto a truck registration number of UBE 862C.

The officers said that, early this month, URA got information of continued production of goods at the premises despite its closure due to non-compliance with tax regulations.

“We responded promptly and conducted an on-site investigation, revealing that Able Beverages Ltd. was indeed loading unstamped juice,” said the URA Enforcement team.

They noted that the manufacturer was also found to be under-declaring the soft drinks by labelling 250-ml bottles as 200-ml, a practice that would result in a loss of revenue.

URA further noted that the subsequent assessment and penalty imposed on Able Beverages Ltd. are in line with Section 19V of the Tax Procedures Code Act 2014, specifically addressing the failure to affix tax stamps.

URA revealed that with the new usage of digital tax stamps, many proprietors are getting caught on the opposite side of the law.
