The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has distanced itself from the graphically disturbing content where men in military-like attire were seen shooting cows on social media.
This followed a section of social media users falsely attributing the act to the UPDF for unclear reasons.
In a statement, Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF Spokesperson, revealed the incident was not in Uganda but in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by elements of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation Rebels (FDLR) rebels who attacked cows belonging to the Masisi people.
“The UPDF respects the rights of animals, and this can be attested to by civilians both in Uganda and everywhere we go for operations, including protecting kraals in areas like Karamoja,” he said in a statement.
Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye reiterated the Force’s commitment to its mandate to protect the people of Uganda and their property.
