Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have deported more than sixteen ex-rebels of the former Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and their families back home from the Central African Republic.
The sixteen arrived at Entebbe International Airport aboard Kenya’s Airways on Monday, August 14, 2023, and were received by commander Air Force Lt, Gen. Charles Okidi, among other dignitaries.
Lt Gen. Charles Okidi has assured the returnees of good treatment and the commitment of peacefully resettling them back home.
“UPDF is a professional force, and even when fighting, whatever combatant we got was treated well, and we ensure that each member will be reunited with their families back home,” Okidi said.
He also added that, the good relationship between the two governments of Uganda and the Central African Republic has shown the world that they can get their people back and resettle them back home.
The first batch had sixty-nine returnees, and the forces expect more people at the end of their mission and exercise.
