As Ugandans enter the New Year 2025 and approach the election period in 2026, it is imperative to note that the opposition leaders and their handful of supporters in Uganda have, for the last years, exhibited an exaggerated sense of self-importance as if the country only belongs to them as a minority group.
The arrogance, intolerance of dissenting views, and the self-entitlement out of unrealistic expectations are part of what characterises opposition in Uganda. They do not value those who disagree with their bad politics and have since attacked and killed them as well as humiliating them in public for supporting the National Resistance movement which is a mass party.
The opposition need to understand that Uganda belongs to all of us regardless of our political affiliations; belonging to the opposition does not mean being more Ugandan than others. The incompetent opposition members of Parliament attacking and assaulting their NRM fellows on the floor of Parliament shamelessly and violently, causing chaos at Parliament with the aim of blocking important Parliament business aimed at developing Ugandans, is a sign of how the opposition politicians in Uganda actually do not know their roles but concentrate on playing to the gallery.
The same exaggerated sense of self-importance, empty excitement, childish exhibitionism, and ideological deficiency has seen opposition being neglected by Ugandans for the last over two decades, but it seems they have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing. What Ugandans need is political formations that aim at developing them, and the NRM is already doing it perfectly through the well-stipulated principles of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, social economic transformation, and democracy.
The opposition politics of deception, baseless self-gratification and immaturity should not cross to 2025.Ugandans are waiting to punish opposition again in 2026 general elections. The opposition in Uganda suffers stunted growth and is a disgrace to the few change-seeking Ugandans; no wonder majority supporters have since crossed to the NRM mass party after witnessing the lack of vision in the opposition and the selfishness and egoism that have caused endless fights and divisions in the opposition parties.
As we approach the 2026 elections, it is time for the opposition to do some soul searching and practice actual politics and know that Ugandans are tired of them. The opposition’s so-called foot soldiers should also open their eyes and know that their selfish, half-baked leaders are using them for selfish ends and should not be trusted; the glaring evidence of selfishness and corruption in these political parties should have these shameless political leaders held accountable since it is already evident that they will definitely lose the 2026 elections. Uganda is for all of us.
