The Uganda Cricket Association on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, launched the first round of the ICC Challenge League B at Copper Chimney in Lugogo.

Teams are expected to arrive on November 4, 2024, with the tournament scheduled to take place between November 6 and November 16, 2024.

This competition is the pathway to the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Eng. Fred Lutaaya, the Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), said Uganda will be hosting five teams, including Tanzania, Bahrain, Singapore, Italy, and Hong Kong.

Key fixtures include Uganda’s opening match against Singapore on November 6, 2024, followed by November 9, 2024: Uganda vs. Tanzania; November 10, 2024: Uganda vs. Hong Kong; November 13, 2024: Uganda vs. Italy; and November 16, 2024: Uganda vs. Bahrain.

Lutaaya expressed the pride of the nation in hosting the event, which will be played at the Lugogo Cricket Oval and Entebbe Cricket Oval.

“We are thrilled to be hosting the 1st round of the Challenge League as Uganda. This opportunity reflects the ICC’s confidence in the Uganda Cricket Association as a capable host nation. Having previously hosted the same event in 2022 and the finals of the Women’s World Cup Qualifiers last year, we see this tournament as an incredible opportunity for our players to showcase their skills. We invite everyone to join us for what promises to be an unforgettable experience,” Lutaaya said.

The tournament is a crucial part of the qualification process for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Uganda’s successful history of hosting international cricket events has earned it the trust of the International Cricket Council (ICC) once again.
