The territorial police in the northwest Nile region have arrested two male refugees who defiled an 18-year imbecile during a wedding ceremony.

The Police Spokesperson, SCP Fred Enanga, while addressing the media today March 25, 2024, at Police headquarters in Naguru, provided details of the distressing incident. The two suspects, identified as Isaac Petya and Emmanuel Okello, both refugees of South Sudan origin, were arrested following their heinous act. Isaac Petya was located at Bela Melin block eight, while Emmanuel Okello resided in Pasu block.

Enanga revealed that evidence suggested the two suspects took advantage of the vulnerable 18-year-old and deceptively offered her company during the wedding ceremony held at Block 4.

“At around 3 a.m., the two lured the victim from the venue after a distance of 400 meters, dragged her to the bush, and defiled her in turns,” said Enanga.

Thankfully, the victim managed to escape after enduring the harrowing ordeal for two hours. She confided in one of her relatives, Viola Modong, who immediately reported the incident to the authorities and was able to identify the two suspects.

This distressing incident highlights the alarming vulnerability of disabled individuals, particularly children, to violence and sexual abuse. Enanga emphasized that this vulnerability stems from their dependency on adults, isolation from family members, and lack of sexual knowledge and awareness.
