The speaker of parliament, Hon. Anita Annet Among, has urged Dr. Eunice Otuko Apio to be a servant leader as she swore in on Thursday, July 20, 2023, during the parliamentary session as the newly elected Oyam North MP.

The speaker congratulated Apio upon her election and welcomed her to the 11th Parliament, a people-centred parliament dedicated serving the Ugandan people.

“I congratulate Hon. Dr. Eunice Apio upon her election and welcome her to the 11th Parliament. The Parliament that she has joined today is a people-centred Parliament, united in serving the needs, interests, and aspirations of the common Ugandan,” she stated.

The speaker also handed a copy of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995, as well as the Rules of Procedure of the Ugandan Parliament, to Dr. Apio to aid her work as a legislator.

“To aid her work as a legislator, I handed her a copy of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, 1995, which is the supreme law of the land, and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Uganda, which is her legislative procedural guidebook,” she added.

The speaker further congratulated the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Party for adding to their numerical strength in the House and for their primary role of serving the people of Uganda.

Eunice Apio Otuko was declared the winner of the Oyam North by-election on July 7, 2023, following the death by gunshot of Charles Engola on May 2, 2023, at his home in Kyanja, Kampala.
