The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has spoken out against divisive forces that threaten the unity of society, emphasizing that such divisions orchestrated by selfish individuals are coming at a high cost to the people.
During a meeting in her office on April 4, Among met with leaders of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council from Mbarara district to discuss the importance of unity and collaboration.
Among expressed the vital significance of standing together as brothers and sisters in faith, urging the religious leaders to prioritize government development initiatives. She emphasized the need for constructive alternatives instead of mere opposition to government efforts, which ultimately hinder societal progress.
“We have witnessed a trend where some leaders just oppose government efforts without offering constructive alternatives, which ultimately hinders progress,” Among stated passionately.
Furthermore, Among encouraged the religious leaders to play a proactive role in shaping the nation’s future through advocacy work. By lending their voices and expertise to critical issues, the religious leaders can contribute significantly to advancing the country’s development and well-being.
Accompanied by Mwine Mpaka, the MP for Mbarara City South, and Sheik Abdallah Mukwaya, the district Khadhi, the Muslim leaders updated Among on the progress of a mosque construction project. Among had generously contributed to the development of the Mbarara mosque as part of her commitment to religious unity and tolerance.
