Police in Sheema are investigating circumstances under which a pit latrine collapsed on a senior six candidate of Kitagata senior secondary school a few hours before his Uganda Certificate of Education (UACE) exams.

The candidate, identified as Caption Ramazima, was doing a subject combination of physics, mathematics, and ICT at Kitagata SSS in Kitagata Sub County.

According to the police, preliminary findings show that the deceased went missing on Sunday, 12th, as senior 6 candidates prepared for the national exams on Monday.

The following morning, 13th, a case of disappearance was reported of the student, and a search commenced. The deceased’s body was discovered on November 16, 2023.

According to the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, Marcial Tumusiime, the incident was attributed to heavy rains, which destroyed the foundation of the latrine.

“The pit latrine that collapsed on the victim was constructed on slanting terrain, so after the heavy rains, the toilet foundation was destroyed,” Tumusiime said.

On April 3, 2021, a senior six student died a few days before her final exams, whose briefing was scheduled to kick off on April 12, 2021. The deceased was found dead lying on her chest down and back up in the ceiling of the school’s dormitory on April 1, 2021, after a case of disappearance was reported to police by the mother.
