The joint security forces have killed one of the most wanted Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists who planned the 2021 Kampala suicide bombing.

Colonel Deo Akiiki Asiimwe, the Deputy Defence Spokesperson (DSP), now known as the Defence Public Information Officer (DPIO), identified the deceased as Ddamulira Yasin, aka Musubuzi.

Col. Akiiki said he was killed on May 28th, 2024, in Mityana by a team of counter-terrorism forces and police after he resisted arrest, which resulted in a fire exchange.

He stated that the operation was a follow-up mission by Defence Intelligence Security after detecting the deceased to be communicating in Mityana.

According to Col. Akiiki, the team recovered one submachine gun (SMG) from the deceased.

“On May 28, Defence Intelligence Security on follow-up ops detected Ddamulira communicating in Mityana, and on the same night, counter-terrorism forces and police attempted to arrest Ddamulira Yasin, resulting in a fire exchange,” said Colonel Akiiki.

According to Akiiki, the deceased had been working closely with suspects behind the 2021 Kampala suicide bombing.

“After the 2021 bombing in Kampala, Musa Kabanda, aka Akman, was arrested. It was later established that he was among the top planners, and he revealed that he was working closely with Ddamulira Yasin, aka Musubuzi, Abas Sekimpi (on remand), and Nsubuga Sulaiman (arrested on April 27),” said Col. Akiiki.

On November 16, at around 10:03 a.m., three suicide bombers attacked two targets in Kampala within three minutes of each other.

The first bomber blew himself up at the checkpoint of the Central Police Station (CPS) just opposite the Kooki Towers building along Buganda Road, killing two people and injuring several others, including police officers at the entrance of the police station.

Two other bombers then exploded at Jubilee House along Parliamentary Avenue, about 100 metres from the entrance of the Parliament, killing two more people and injuring many others.
