The Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Rt. Hon. Valentina Matviyenko, has sent her heartfelt condolences in the aftermath of the tragic attack at Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School in Kasese District.
“It is with deep sadness and pain that the members of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation have learned about the terrorist attack on the school in Mpondwe,” Rt. Hon. Matviyenko wrote in a statement.
“In this difficult hour, I send words of support to you and all Ugandan citizens, as well as my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” she added.
The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, welcomed the condolence message and appreciated Rt. Hon. Valentina Matviyenko for standing with the people of Uganda at a time of immense sorrow.
“We are deeply touched by the Federal Russian Assembly of the Russian Federation that is headed by the Rt. Hon. Valentina Matviyenko, for standing with us at such a time of immense sorrow, following the loss of our young innocent children in the hands of ruthless rebels in Kasese,” Among tweeted.
She highlighted that their thoughtful words were enormously comforting to the grieving Ugandan nation.
On June 16, 2023, militants affiliated with the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) stormed Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School, murdering 38 students, 5 adults, and kidnapping a number of others.
