TRAFFIC; Reckless driving, a leading cause of accident along Entebbe Expressway, Northern Bypass

The Uganda traffic police department has classified reckless driving as the leading cause of motor accidents along major highways in the country.

Top on the list of highways often recording motor accidents emanating from reckless driving include Kampala-Masaka, the Entebbe Expressway and Northern Bypass.

ASP Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson says reckless driving including over speeding, driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety, or showing willful disregard of consequences when operating a vehicle by most drivers are key causes of these accidents.

Regarding the recent fatal accident that claimed the life of claimed the life of Nile High School-Mukono proprietor Yesse Mubangizi Kamanyire along Kampala-Masaka highway, ASP Nampiima blamed it on the recklessness of a boda operator.

She confirmed that the accident occurred when the boda-boda rider just turned from left to the right side without indicating, and in the process, the driver of the Prado tried to dodge him but instead ended up losing control knocking him dead instantly.

The driver of the vehicle also died moment later from the hospital according to police.
