President Yoweri Museveni has advised leaders to follow in the footsteps of Speaker of Parliament Anita Among in fostering development in their areas.

He was on Sunday, August 18, 2024, opening the 21st edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) games, being hosted at Bukedea Comprehensive School, a multipurpose stadium constructed by the Speaker in Bukedea district.

“I want to thank Speaker Anita Among for developing this stadium at a reasonable cost and time. This should serve as an example for other leaders to emulate so that they can develop stadiums in other parts of the country,” Museveni said.

President Museveni further commended Speaker Among for her dedication to improving the lives of her constituents through various development projects.

He noted that her selflessness and commitment to service are qualities that other leaders should emulate.

The president emphasized the importance of wealth creation, whose major objective is to empower the people and encourage them to participate in the formal economy.

President Museveni, who delivered most of his speech in Swahili, informed participants that East African integration is not just about sports but also the strategic security and prosperity of all East Africans.

“One cannot live a good life without producing a good or a service, which has been our long experience here in Uganda, which he shared with colleagues in the East African community like Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and others. East African integration is so crucial in addressing the issue of markets for produced goods within the region,” said President Museveni.

Speaker Anita applauded President Museveni’s commitment to sustainable growth and development, including the promotion of sports.

This year’s FEASSA Games 2024 have brought together at least 3,000 participants from East Africa.

Uganda is looking forward to defending its title at the competition that will run up to August 27, 2024.

The games to be played by both boys and girls include football, swimming, table tennis, soccer, badminton, basketball, handball, netball, rugby 15s, and hockey.
