The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has called on Africans to stop victimizing themselves and raise the level for the world to invest in their natural resources and human capital-endowed continent.
Kagame made the remarks on April 28, 2024, during the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) special meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which WEF President Borge Brende referred to as a significant event to review de-escalation in the conflicts in the Middle East, the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and other important regional and international topics.
Speaking during the opening event, Kagame noted that Africa is the only continent that has a growing middle class, and the rest of the world has to see that this is an important place to invest with and invest in adding that “Africa has to avoid any victim mentality and start raising ourselves to the level where we should be.”
He noted that Africa is a very important geographical part of the world, not only because of the natural resources but also because of the people, and the continent is currently coming together to push for development.
“We are seeing Africa, much as you may find problems here and there, coming together and moving forward. Different countries have decided to embrace the growth of the economy,” he said.
He further noted that development can’t come from nothing but the good efforts that Africans are putting in place and asked the rest of the world to look at Africa as an important entity to develop affairs with its politics and economy.
The WEF special meeting is scheduled to continue until Monday, April 28, 2024, with the aim of facilitating dialogue among thought leaders and the public on a range of topics, including environmental challenges, mental health, digital currencies, artificial intelligence, the role of the arts in society, modern entrepreneurship, and smart cities.
