Panic has engulfed the Opposition National Unity Platform party, NUP headquarters, following the mysterious death of head of gate security, Okwai James Wasoti, amidst claims that he was poisoned.

Before meeting his death, the deceased had been battling accusations from some top NUP stalwarts close to Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine.

The group had accused him of leaking critical information about the principal, the general operation of the party, and also being a close ally to the former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, at the NUP Headquarters.

“With great sadness, I have learned of the untimely passing of our comrade Okwai James Wasoti, aka Kabogo, who has worked with our security team since the Kyadondo Parliamentary campaign in 2017. When we started the People Power Movement and eventually the NUP, he took over as head of gate security, a duty he held until yesterday. It is a very, very painful day at the National Unity Platform. May his soul rest in peace,” Bobi Wine announced on his official X-forum on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Sources close to the deceased alleged that Okwai’s problems started when he was discovered by the party as a mole who had been leaking vital information about the party.

They pinned him for leaking how NUP had for long been abducting its own members and later framing it on security, how many NUP members had military-like attire, NUP’s income and expenditure statement, torturing citizens, and later blaming it on security.

He was also accused of leaking a plot to poison the former LoP, MP Mpuuga, and his close associates after they disagreed with Bobi Wine.

Another source revealed that, before falling sick, the deceased told his close friend how he was fearing for his life after some relatives of Bobi Wine had directly confronted him about taking picture of Bobi Wine’s son, Solomon, while smoking marijuana.

“Okwai shared with us last month that he feared for his life as he had noticed the change of attitude towards him by his bosses, who had on several occasions questioned him about his closeness to Mpuuga and how some information was getting into the media and to the public amidst having tight security,” the source said.

They claim that they too had noticed a significant change in Okwai’s life, and they urged him to go and seek medical attention since he did not look good at all.

According to sources, he had informed them that he sought medical attention, but the doctors later told him he had been poisoned through food.

“Okwai had been told by the doctors that he had been poisoned by a slow-killing poison called thallium (rat poison), which is odorless and tasteless. All his meals were mostly served to him at his bosses’ home, so he died knowing that they had figured him out for sinking very vital information, and rather than fire him, they chose to end his life,” added the source.
