People Power Defections Are Not Only About Money

The continued defections of members of the People Power pressure group have raised allegations from the public and the establishment that they have been bribed with a lot of money to defect. Former die hards like Bosmic Otim have raised dust and doubt over the future and viability of the pressure group in shaping the politics of this country.

This however raises questions at the ideological impetus of the party and how it or lack of, has been easily defeated with a simple motivational base like money.

This also proves that the pressure group packs both the structure and maturity to coordinate a large group of people with varying interests. It also speaks to the leadership of the group.

Many have doubted Bobi Wines leadership credentials before and it yet to be seen if he can lead the group through a prolonged political campaign as the 2021 elections will demand.

The response from majority of the people power radicals has been to ridicule the defectors and name calling. They have burned bridges with all former allies. Those that have been musicians have been violently treated at music shows.

This leaves a worrying trend for people that want to join the group. Others like MP Tinkasimire have chosen to leave the group partially and only associating with it in name but not in practice due to fear of reprehension from the groups followers.
