The Government of Uganda has allocated Ugx 500million to revive Chonganbe pipe water system in Nyakabingo parish, Buseruka Sub-county, Hoima district through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
The Ugx 700 M water project that was commissioned in December 2021 in Chonganbe, failed a few months later when the pumping system broke down.
Chonganbe water pipe system was intended to supply water to the communities of Nyakabingo, Nyabihukuru, Kamugole, and Kasenyi Lyato villages, all in Nyakabingo parish.
Kadir Kirungi, the Hoima LCV Chairperson said that the piped water pumping system broke down after it developed a mechanical problem adding that the district through Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project -DR DIP has finalized plans to have the water system repaired to fully serve its purpose.
According to Geoffrey Kumakech, the Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration at Hoima District Local Government, the money will be used to repair the water pump system, install the water treatment plant, extend electricity, and fix other defects.
“When we first completed the project, we were unaware it would develop further problems. We later discovered that the water was hard and got complaints from locals. After the directorate visited the project, it was established that we need a treatment plan so we communicated to the OPM under the DRDIP and we got 500m,” he said.
According to Ali Tinakamanyire, the Buseruka Sub-county LCIII Chairperson, once repaired, the piped water project will help supply clean water to communities in Nyakabingo sub-county that are currently facing acute water shortage.
The project was funded by Development Response to Displacement Impacts Project (DRDIP), a Government of Uganda social protection and development-based Programme implemented under the Office of the Prime Minister.
