OPINION: The Rainbow is a Sign of God’s Omnipresence Not a Go-Ahead for Homosexuals

In a recent TikTok video, the LGBTQ community asserted that the Bible’s rainbow is proof that God approves of homosexuality and that by opposing it, humanity is trying to defy God. How they changed the facts of the story to support their narrative defied my understanding.

Before the original story is twisted any further, here is the real meaning of the rainbow: The rainbow first occurs in Scripture toward the end of the global flood tale in Genesis 6:9, which was sent to earth as punishment for mankind’s persistent wrongdoing and wickedness as witnessed in Genesis 6:5–12. God then chose to send down rain for 40 days and nights, causing a deluge that killed everything on earth except for Noah and his family and a large number of animals that were kept safe inside a wooden ark.

According to Genesis 8:2, after several months of the flood, the rains from the heavens were restrained, and the rain stopped, resulting in a rainbow that appeared in the sky.

God attached special meaning to the rainbow so that every time we see it, we may be reminded of God’s covenant to never destroy everyone and everything on earth again with a flood.

“Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth. I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth… This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth,” Genesis 9:8–16 reads.

Contrary to the delusional story the LGBTQ have told themselves, the Bible is very clear about what the rainbow symbolizes.

The LGBTQ fraternity should understand that what they are involved in is sinful, and the Lord is not in any way supportive of their actions. The rainbow is not a sign acknowledging and giving them a go-ahead to commit sin, but rather a sign to his people, assuring us of his presence in our lives in times of turmoil.
