Doreen Nyanjura, a member of the National Executive Committee of Forum Democratic Change (FDC) and avid supporter of the Katonga Faction, has reportedly been experiencing mental instability as a result of the infighting inside FDC.
FDC has been split in two for more than a month, with the Katonga and Najjanakumbi factions at odds with one another due to leadership disputes over bribery, illegal funds, questionable purchases, and a lack of accountability.
Following this, there were a number of dramas, including one in which FDC Chairman Wasswa Biriggwa scaled a fence to escape from the Najjanakumbi Faction’s captivity under the direction of FDC Party President Patrick Amuriat and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi. Nandala also removed Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda as the FDC whip in parliament, which, according to some members, contravenes the constitution of the party.
Nyanjura has been left frustrated as a result of all of this drama, which has made her mental health unstable because she has religiously devoted her life to the party, and watching it fall apart has profoundly affected her.
Nyanjura recently took to her Twitter page to express how this betrayal has hurt her to the core, saying the only way FDC can survive is if Nandala and Amuriat leave the party.
“The leadership of the Najjanankumbi faction exhibited cheap hypocrisy and betrayed the ideals of the party, and I am taking some time off to undergo introspection,” Nyanjura said.
“I am yet to come to terms with what is happening. I am still not sure what to tell those who have sacrificed their lives, their youth, and their resources to build a foundation for years; a foundation that took years to build just took months to be dismantled by cheap, greedy, unprincipled men with no character or shame,” she added.
As of Thursday, September 7, 2023, the National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi, has called upon FDC members to join his party because it does not exist anymore.
“FDC members should join NUP because their leadership has failed them and dragged the 19-year-old party to the mud,” Kyagulanyi said.
Amidst recent events, Nyanjura has been undergoing counselling from a private counsellor, and according to a close associate, she is on anti-depression medication to alleviate her mental breakdown.
