There is free drama at the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices in Kamwokya after top leaders from  Northern and Western Uganda threw in the towel and dropped their responsibilities in the party.

The leaders include the General Secretary for the West Nile region
Julius Apeko, Samuel Obedgiu, the Deputy National Youth Coordinator for the Northern region and Samuel Okot the chairperson of the Acholi sub region who have all called it quits.

They accuse party leaders of segregation and noninvolvement in several of the party activities.

They also accuse the Party General Secretary David Lewis Rubongoya of  refusing to work with them during the election season.

They accuse Rubongoya of being a bully who only exploits the
team as and when he desires.”

Innocent Natukunda, the head of the Tooro sub region has also threatened
to resign, citing disrespect
and segregation in the party
processes.

One of the resignees wrote a letter to the party
leadership indicating why he resigned as others withdrew from the different party groups as a sign on defiance and non-compliance.

Rubongoya is also accused of sending teams from head office to the different electoral areas to carry out activities without consent from the area structural leaders.

“We now question if we are important when during vital activities, we
aren’t invited to participate,” one of the leaders ranted.

In January,  Rubongoya sent well facilitated teams to
different destinations upcountry to engage in electoral processes,
including the securing of victory of their candidate Robert
Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine.

However, none of the area structural leaders were informed about the
processes and deployments, “rendering them irrelevant, incompetent.”

The resignations follow an earlier withdraw of Spartan Achilles from
the leadership of the Party over similar challenges.

Achilles was frustrated by the inability of the party leaders to move forward with objectives which included the quest for
better governance and the change of Government.

“Time came when Spartan was playing the pivotal role in connecting the
Diaspora to the party Leadership. Since his departure, several members
of the Diaspora have turned guns to the Secretary General and his
subordinates accusing him on moral ground.”

A source within the party leadership says last month, Rubongoya traveled with a team of leaders in the party to the Diaspora retreat held in the United States.

However, a handful of party members attended the retreat citing that it is such intrigue that will finish off the visibly  struggling wave of NUP.
