In a shocking revelation, sources have unveiled that the National Unity Platform (NUP) inner circle leadership orchestrated the Mpuuga saga using the #UgandaParliamentExhibition, diverting public attention away from Joel Ssenyonyi, the leader of the Opposition.

According to insider information, Ssenyonyi was allegedly involved in a bribery scandal during his time as Chairperson of COSASE (Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities, and State Enterprises).

The saga began after the Uganda Parliament Exhibition gained significant momentum, with several members of parliament being exposed for their actions on various commissions. Sensing trouble, Ssenyonyi seized an opportunity when the exhibitors mentioned Mpuuga in connection with a service award of Ugx 500 million. He quickly approached Bobi Wine, the NUP leader, and urged him to confront Mpuuga about the money.

Unnamed sources claim that Bobi Wine, without thinking twice, called upon Mpuuga to clarify the alleged award. Mpuuga admitted to receiving the money and stated that it was for his services as the Leader of Opposition. He further mentioned that he was eagerly awaiting his share, without any hesitation.

Since then, tensions between the NUP members have escalated, providing Ssenyonyi with a convenient smokescreen. Ssenyonyi formerly served as the COSASE Chairperson until his appointment as Leader of the Opposition late last year. However, insiders familiar with the Commission have reported that he accepted bribes to leak, undermine several reports and findings during his tenure.

One notable instance involved the Uganda Airlines inquiry and Civil Aviation Authority, where Ssenyonyi allegedly received a bribe and a two-week holiday to a location of his choice, all in exchange for watering down the commission’s findings.

Sources suggest that by diverting attention towards the Mpuuga-NUP saga, Ssenyonyi managed to create a cover for his alleged involvement in bribery. As NUP has continued to push the narrative of Mpuuga’s corruption, the Exhibition and its revelations have gradually taken a backseat, effectively overshadowing any scrutiny of Ssenyonyi’s actions.

The public’s attention had been cleverly manipulated, with the Mpuuga saga providing a smokescreen for Ssenyonyi, allowing the bribery allegations to remain concealed from public scrutiny. As the political temperature continues to rise within NUP, it remains to be seen how this revelation will impact the party and its members.

Observers speculate that these allegations may have broader implications for the political landscape in Uganda, casting doubts on the integrity and transparency of parliamentarians across party lines. The public eagerly awaits further investigations into these claims and the subsequent actions taken against those involved.
