The Joe Walker Campaign in partnership with the Rwenzori Diocese, today, 6th February, 2024 painted a zebra crossing in Fort Portal City on High Street. This aimed to remind road users to exercise caution while on the road.

The decision to paint the zebra crossing was not only to enhance road safety but also to commemorate the lives lost in tragic road accidents, including that of Bishop Patrick Kyaligonza, who tragically passed away on February 11, 2010, in Mukunyu Kyenjojo.

“This initiative serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance while navigating our roads,” said Joseph Beyanga.

In response to the alarming rate of road accidents, the Rwenzori Diocese established a trust fund named after Bishop Patrick Kyaligonza to support road safety activities in collaboration with the local community.

Rev. Canon Ezra Musobozi, Dean of the Rwenzori Cathedral, emphasized the importance of enforcing road safety laws. “Accountability and implementation of laws are crucial in saving lives on our roads,” stated Rev. Canon Musobozi.

Joseph Beyanga, popularly known as Joe Walker, thanked the leaders for their dedication to road safety initiatives and pledged to continue supporting the cause.

“We are committed to working hand in hand with the community to ensure safer roads for all,” said Joseph Beyanga.

RCC Hellen Kamwiine, FortPortal commended The Joe Walker team for their efforts and urged all road users to prioritize safety.

“We must all be mindful on the road to prevent further tragedies and ensure everyone reaches their destination safely,” urged RCC Kamwiine

A thanksgiving ceremony was held at St. John’s Cathedral to celebrate the collaborative effort in promoting road safety.

The Joe Walker team, after a nine-day walk from Kampala, arrived in Fort Portal City on 5th February, 2024.
