The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has accused several opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) of engaging in immoral activities during their recent regional parliamentary session in Gulu.
The allegations suggest that these lawmakers are well known for messing around with prostitutes and women, where they assert that even within the party they have partners.
According to sources close to Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the NUP party deputy spokesperson; Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP); and Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, during the unveiling of NUP mobilization vehicles, the trio was overheard discussing the parliamentary session in Gulu.
They claimed that Mathias Mpuuga, the former LOP; Bashir Kazibwe, the MP for Kawempe South; and Michael Kakembo, the MP for Entebbe Municipality, while in Gulu, engaged with prostitutes, a known vice they identify with and keep moving around with.
The source further stated that the allegations started when Ssenyonyi inquired whether they had made a mistake not to attend the Gulu sessions.
According to the source, Bobi Wine playfully asked Ssenyonyi if his regret comes because he will miss on the prostitutes since it is what those MPs are well known for.
The source further revealed that Mufumbiro cut in with laughter and said that he would be surprised, especially if Mpuuga left Gulu without engaging with a prostitute, which sent all the group into laughter.
“Bobi Wine said that those guys have nothing to add and bring to the party; these MPs undermine the integrity of the party as such actions not only reflect poorly on the individuals involved but also on the entire opposition bloc,” the source said.
However, our reporter reached out to the accused MPs, and Mpuuga particularly had these to say.
“When dealing with individuals who are lacking in understanding and knowledge, you don’t have to lower yourself to their level; such characters enjoy attacking people they are afraid of, so please do not give it any importance,” Mpuuga said.
He went ahead and said that there were over 300 MPs present who can attest to their good name, and the public should not believe cowards who remained in Kampala to spread propaganda and falsehoods.
The NUP urged the public to demand transparency and integrity from their elected representatives.
The NUP party internal scaffle began when Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, the former LOP, was accused of getting involved in the alleged corruption scandles through the Sevice Award of UGX 500 million that he received as a parliamentary commissioner, which the NUP leadership considered illegal and therefore null and void.
