The National Drug Authority (NDA) has cautioned the public against consuming L-Power coffee, which is currently on the market.
In a press release dated August 22, 2023, the Authority said that laboratory testing has shown that L-Power coffee has been tainted with the prescription drug Tadalafil.
“Tadalafil is a drug for erectile dysfunction that must be used under strict instructions by a qualified medical professional as it has serious side effects, which include extreme respiratory and cardiac problems, urinary disorders, and leading to coma and death,” reads part of the statement.
According to the authorities, the NDA’s Imports Control Team intercepted a shipment of L-Power coffee that was being disguised as a nutritional supplement and sent samples to the Quality Control Laboratory.
Following the receipt of positive results for Tadalafil, the NDA formally told the importers of L-Power Coffee that they must accept full responsibility for the coffee’s destruction and recall it from the market for any items that may have been smuggled into Uganda.
The NDA, along with other law enforcement authorities, is continuing to investigate this matter in order to hold those responsible accountable.
All pharmacies, drug stores, supermarkets, internet stores, and drug and health nutritional supplement dealers have been directed to immediately cease stocking, selling, or otherwise transacting in L-Power Coffee.
The NDA urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products on their toll-free number, 0800101999, or WhatsApp number, 0740002070.
