The National Drug Authority (NDA) has arrested traditional herbalist Asharaf Rashid Lukwago on August 24, 2023, for misuse of drugs, treatment claims, and operating in a dirty environment.

According to NDA spokesperson Abiaz Rwamwiri, the arrest follows a week of intelligence collection and follow-up with the police force over Lukwago treatment claims.

“Lukwago was arrested from his clinic in Kampala shrub after a week of follow-up, and on entering the office, the team found that he was mixing both herbal and artificial drugs like Viagra, calming that it increases sexual manpower if used,” Rwamwiri claimed.

Rwamwiri stated that Lukwago was discovered with antibiotic concoctions that he claimed cleansed the blood of HIV/AIDS patients.

He added that the herbalist was working in an unsanitary environment, as the location where he mixed the ingredients was filthy.

Rwamwiri stated that investigations into the matter are still ongoing. The herbalist, who stands accused of drug misuse and making false treatment claims, is expected to be brought before the court in due course.
