The four canonical gospels describe the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem a few days before his crucifixion and resurrection. He entered the city riding a donkey and was greeted by a chanting crowd waving palm branches and laying cloaks on the ground.
According to the bible in the book of Matthew 21:1–11, the event saw many sick, lame, and blind people healed by Jesus and later ushered in Jesus’s death, which saved them from sin.
Like Jesus entering Jerusalem, government officials and NRM leaders, together with local leaders in West Nile, have geared up the preparations ahead of a three-day visit by president Museveni to the sub-region on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.
According to the NRM party leaders, the purpose of the visit is to preach the gospel of investment and wealth creation through the famous parish development model, with Emyooga aiming at alleviating poverty and unemployment among the locals. He is also expected to visit model farmers and factories, among others.
The President’s entry into West Nile today coincides with the day Uganda commemorates 44 years since Idi Amin’s reign of terror was put to an end.
Amin was a son of the soil of Koboko, which now belongs to West Nile, where President Museveni is entering in peace just like Jesus entered Jerusalem.
According to the NRM director of communications, Mr. Emmanuel Dombo, the president’s tour is a coincidence.
“When the planning committee sat, the overthrow of Idi Amin was not an issue that was considered or debated.Actually, even for me, I was not aware that was the date, but this was just a coincidence where the President of Uganda is going to a region to supervise the people he works with, to find out whether the resources he sends to the ground work,” Mr. Dombo said.
President Museveni’s three-day visit to West Nile, according to the locals, is prophetic, and it seals the peace he authored in 1978 when Museveni and his FRONASA troops accompanied the Tanzanians during the counter-invasion of Uganda, which overthrew the dictatorship of Amin and caused relative peace in Uganda.
Dombo revealed that the president made promises to the people of West Nile, stating that those are some of the things the president is set to discuss and announcing to them how far he had gone in their implementation, just like Jesus entered Jerusalem to fulfil what he has promised.
