President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta is in Bujumbura, Burundi, to attend the regional oversight meeting on peace, security, and cooperation for the DRC and the region, at the invitation of H.E. Évariste Ndayishimiye, the President of Burundi.
Sandor Lyle, the Senior Presidential Press Secretary, said that while in Bujumbura, the President will also engage in various bilateral talks with his counterparts from within the region.
“His Excellency will also attend the 11th high-level meeting of the regional oversight mechanism of the peace, security, and cooperation framework for the DRC and the region,” said Sandor.
East African regional leaders have been holding meetings to derive urgent solutions to the current security crisis in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where the M23 faction is fighting against the DRC government.
Currently, East American standby forces are deployed to supervise and ensure the ceasefire is successfully implemented.
