The parliamentary regional sitting in Gulu City on Thursday, August 29th, 2024, entered the second day of plenary sessions being chaired by the Speaker, Annet Anita Among.
During the Thursday plenary sessions, legislators from both the ruling National Resistance Movement party and various opposition parties applauded the Uganda People’s Defense Forces under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the Commander in Chief for restoring peace and stability in Northern Uganda.
MP Dan Kimosho Atwijukire from Kazo District praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his visionary leadership of the UPDF in safeguarding peace and security in the Acholi, Lango, West Nile, and Karamoja sub-regions.
Kimosho noted that President Museveni directly facilitated and supported initiatives aimed at reintegrating former Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, combatants, and abductees into society through programs like disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration.
“Through President Museveni’s visionary leadership, the Uganda People’s Defense Forces have over the years successfully combated the activities of the rebel groups in Northern Uganda, including disarmament in Karamoja, which has resulted in liberation, pacification, and guaranteeing peace and security in the region and the entire country,” Kimosho stated.
Kimosho highlighted that the tireless efforts of the UPDF leadership, working under the guidance of President Museveni, have maintained continued peace and security in Northern Uganda and throughout the country.
MP Nakut Faith Loru Chuna, the Napak District woman representative, noted the UPDF’s spirit of motivation, sacrifice, and revolutionary approach.
She thanked the Commander in Chief for inculcating the revolutionary spirit in the UPDF, a spirit that doesn’t see impossibilities.
The recognition emphasizes the President’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and promoting development in these areas through effective military strategies and reintegration programs.
The Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between the Government of Uganda and the Lord’s Resistance Movement was entered into in 2006 to assemble LRA forces for safety and security.
