The Nakaseke South Member of Parliament, Lutamaguzi Semakula, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, has commended the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development on the remarkable progress made in the implementation of the Rural Electrification Programme in Gomba District.

Lutamaguzi, who was with the committee for an oversight visit in Gomba on May 15, 2024, was stunned that even the most remote village in the district is connected to electricity.

“I have appreciated the work you’ve done so far, and I am very happy. If I am awarding you out of 100%, I am giving you 98%,” he said while praising the Rural Electrification Programme in the area, adding that the progress seen in Gomba District suggests that the programme is on track to achieving its goals.

The Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, together with officials from the Energy Ministry, inspected the Energy for Rural Transformation (ERT) Ill project in Gomba, which covers the rural areas of Kanoni-Mpenja, Kanoni-Mamba landing site, and Kanoni-Mwese to the power grid.

They witnessed firsthand the impact of the programme on the lives of rural communities and noted that electricity has reached even the most remote areas, bringing light and power to the people, which is aiding socioeconomic transformation.

The State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development in charge of Minerals, Phiona Nyamutoro, who was heading the team from the ministry, thanked the Rural Electrification Department for their tireless efforts in powering rural communities across the country.

She said that oversight is crucial in ensuring that government programmes are on track and that resources are being used effectively to improve the lives of citizens.

The Committee on Environment and Natural Resources is conducting an oversight of rural electrification projects and various mineral sites and will cover Gomba, Masaka, Mbarara, Mitooma, Ntungamo, Bushenyi, Kabarole, and Mubende districts.
