MP Flavia Kalule Admits to Sexual Harassment Allegations Within NUP Party

The Kassanda district Woman Member of Parliament who also doubles as the NUP National Women’s League Chairperson, Hon. Flavia Kalule Nabagabe has admitted to several sexual harassment allegations against women within the party.

Kalule made these revelations while chairing a meeting of NUP female supporters, her Deputy Chairpersons for the Western and Central regions plus the Kampala District women leadership at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule on September 17, 2024.

“We are here to serve our people and contribute to our party, but the harassment makes it difficult to focus on our work. It creates a toxic environment that discourages women from participating fully,” Kalule stated.

During the meeting, the female party supporters expressed their disappointment with some of the male leaders within the party structures for using their positions and powers to sexually harass their female counterparts and yet the party leadership decided to remain silent.

These emphasize that the harassments are not isolated incidents but rather part of a systemic problem that requires urgent attention from the party leadership. Some claim that even the senior party leaders are fueling the vice through direct participation, and others take part in shielding and protecting the culprits.

This is not the first time allegations of sexual harassment against women within the NUP party have been raised but not given the needed attention by the party leadership.

However, Flavia Kalule noted all the concerns and vowed to deal with all the culprits of sexual harassment within the party. She also promised to engage the party’s top leadership to have a lasting solution that would permanently eliminate the vice from the party.
