Marcelo Expresses Regret for Injuring Sanchez in a Copa Libertadores game

Following a nasty injury on Luciano Sanchez during a Copa Libertadores match in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Fluminense’s Marcelo Vieira da Silva Junior expressed remorse for the horrible incident.

Argentinos Juniors defender Sanchez was left with a broken leg after an accidental stomp from the former Brazil and Real Madrid left-back while dribbling the ball past him.

Later, after the game, Marcelo took to Twitter (@MarceloM12) to apologize for the incident.

“Today I have had to live through a very difficult moment on the pitch. I have inadvertently injured a colleague. I want to wish you the best possible recovery, Luciano Sánchez. All the strength in the world!” Marcelo twitted.

Marcelo left the field in tears after receiving a red card for a tackle that broke the leg of an Argentinos Juniors player. The incident took place in the 56th minute of the match, which ended 1-1.mam

Gabriel Avalos scored for the Argentinos Juniors, while Samuel Xavier equalized for Fluminense.

On August 8th, the two top-ranked teams will meet again at the Maracana Stadium for the decisive match to see which nation will book a place in the quarterfinals of the competition.
