A local social media fanatic in Lira City identified as Philip Ogile, aka Jakayo, has been sent to jail until December 5th, 2024, for allegedly leading a violent attack against Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul.
Prosecution alleges that Ogile, who is one of the religious supporters of Dr. Michael Okune, was arrested and charged in connection with the ambush and attack on the vehicle belonging to Amb. Ogwang Okul on November 1st, 2024.
The incident, which occurred at Senior Quarters, Lira City, involved the stoning of Ambassador Okul’s vehicle (registration number UBD 315D), resulting in damage to the vehicle and injuries to his driver and local guard.
Ogile, identified as a leading social media activist who allegedly orchestrated a massive hate campaign series against Ambassador Okul while promoting Eng. Michael Odongo Okune, is a key suspect in the attack.
His arrest follows the Lira High Court ruling of October 31st, 2024, which halted the coronation of Eng. Odongo Okune as Lango Cultural Leader—a ruling believed to have fueled the violence.
While Jakayo has been apprehended, police in Lira are continuing their investigation to apprehend other individuals involved in both the November 1st and November 17th attacks on Ambassador Okul.
The November 17th incident also involved assault and is under active investigation.
Lira Police have committed to ensuring that Ambassador Okul receives justice for the damage to his property and the assaults he suffered. Further details regarding the charges against Mr. Jakayo and the ongoing investigation will be released as they become available.
