Landslides, Floods Devastate Communities in Bulambuli and Sironko Districts

A tragic disaster has struck Kimono village in Buluganya sub-county, Bulambuli district, as landslides claimed the lives of over 30 individuals.
The catastrophic event occurred on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, around 9 pm, burying over 20 homes under tons of debris.
Hajjat Faheera Mpalanyi, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bulambuli, confirmed that more than 30 people are currently trapped beneath the rubble.
“Rescue operations are underway, but the situation remains dire as authorities work to locate and save those still missing,” Mpalanyi said.
In a related incident, Kesenji village in Zebibi parish, Bukyabo sub-county in Sironko district, faced a tragedy, where more than eight people were reported dead due to severe flooding and mudslides, compounding the grief felt across the region.
Local leaders noted that the rescue team was already on the ground and urged residents to check on their loved ones in the affected areas as the community grapples with the aftermath of these devastating natural disasters.
“Emergency services are mobilizing to provide assistance and support to those impacted,” the RDC noted.
The government and local authorities are assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts to aid the victims and their families during this challenging time.
