The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga has hailed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the government for introducing life changing skilling initiative among the youth to fight unemployment in Uganda.
“I’m very appreciative of this Presidential Initiative aimed at skilling the youth. The rationale for anyone is to get work and you can only learn when still young. So, I urge the youth to get trained so that you may have meaningful lives when you’re adults,” Katikkiro said.
The Buganda Premier made the remarks on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 while launching the Presidential Skilling Industrial Hub in the greater Masaka sub region at Ndegeya Village, Bugabira Parish in Masaka City.
Katikiro Mayiga appealed to the youth and the people of Masaka to grab and embrace skilling opportunities offered to them by President Museveni and other leaders.
“Opportunities come silently, but one has to have a nose that smells, ears to hear, eyes to see them. It is a great opportunity to be led by a wife who is responsible for financial management of a home like the president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” he said.
According to Jane Barekye, the State House Comptroller, the center which started operating in February, 2023, offers free vocational training to the youth aged 18-35 drawn from nine (9) districts that make up the greater Masaka sub region.
Barekye said that President Museveni set up vocational training schools with an intention of solving unemployment to improve the country’s economic growth.
She said that the students who will complete the course, shall be awarded with a certificate of Uganda Vocational Qualifications from Directorate of Industrial Training under the Ministry of Education and Sports.
