Leaders of Karamoja region have scoffed at opposition politicians in Kampala for undermining their region’ s potential but instead chose to politick and ridicule them.

The leaders who pledged to continue supporting President Yoweri Museveni also endorsed him as NRM’s sole candidate for the 2021 polls.

This was during the regional leaders meeting which President Museveni addressed at Naitakwae village, North Division in Moroto District on Tuesday.

The meeting comprised of regional leaders such as Members of Parliament, RDCs, LCV chairpersons and councilors, NRM district executive committees and district league chairpersons, district departmental heads, Operation Wealth Creation officers, NRM sub-county chairpersons to mention but afew.

The leaders rubbished the Opposition for undermining Karamoja but commended President Museveni for standing with them “when the rest of the country claimed they can not wait for Karamoja to develop”.

They said the President continued to believe in them and facilitating the region to pick up at the same pace with the rest.

“Now that God has given us a leader who has ensured that we have tarmac roads, schools, hospitals, etc, we want to tell the people of Kampala to give us a chance to appreciate what government is doing for us. Wait for us in Kampala when we are dissatisfied, we shall find you there and say no,” Simon Peter Aleper, the NRM vice chairperson for Karamoja region said.

The President is in Karamoja on a wealth creation and poverty eradication campaign tour. He has already covered Tooro, Bunyoro, West Nile, Acholi and Lango subregions where he emphasised mechanisms to combat hunger, ensure food security and income generation to fight poverty.

Lango, Tooro, Bunyoro, West Nile and Acholi are some of the regions that President Museveni has taken the wealth creation gospel to. They also endorsed him as NRM’s 2021 sole candidate.
