The number of people who have died in the Thursday night bus accident along the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Oyam District has risen to 20.

About 11 people died on the spot when a bus with registration number UAT 259T belonging to Roblyn Bus Company that was travelling from Kampala to Gulu ramped into a stationed trailer at Adebe Trading Center, about a kilometre from corner  Kamdini, around a few minutes to mid-night.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, said that the bus ramped into a stationed trailer that was parked and loading produce by the roadside.

A total of nine people reportedly passed on from the hospital, while those injured were rushed to Atapara Hospital.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established; however, the preliminary findings indicate that the trailer driver had wrongly parked without warning signs.

The dead bodies have been conveyed to Anyeke Health IV pending a post-mortem.
