Infamous NUP Plot Against Ssegirinya: A Case of Political Betrayal

Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, once a rising star in the National Unity Platform (NUP), has found himself at the center of a dramatic political conspiracy. The former Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, known for his transparency and grassroots activism, is said to have been targeted for elimination by the NUP leadership due to his growing influence and trust among Ugandans in the diaspora.

Famously known as “Mr. Update,” Ssegirinya’s Facebook page became a hub for political fundraising helping him raise significant amounts of money to support various initiatives including the establishment of Kawempe North Hospital.

His connection to the Ugandan diaspora, along with his reputation for ensuring transparency, made him a key figure in the political struggle against the government. However, his success seemed to threaten the NUP leadership, who were accused of mishandling funds and becoming increasingly detached from the people they claimed to fight for.

According to sources close to NUP, an emergency meeting was convened to address the growing threat posed by Ssegirinya’s popularity and allegedly discussed ways to eliminate Ssegirinya.

The alleged plot to poison Ssegirinya reportedly emerged from an urgent meeting held by the NUP leadership, including Kyagulanyi Sentamu (Bobi Wine), Joel Senyonyi, and Chairman Nyanzi.

It is alleged that they plotted to eliminate Ssegirinya through poisoning, exploiting his health condition after he revealed that he was living with HIV/AIDS, which he contracted from his then Swedish-based girlfriend, Gulix. In December 2022, a well-known comedian (name withheld), who was close to Ssegirinya, is said to have carried out the poisoning.

The allegations however cast a dark cloud over the NUP party, with many questioning the ethics and motivations behind the plot. As of now, Ssegirinya’s supporters are demanding accountability and justice for what they believe was a political betrayal of the highest order by once a vocal critic of the government.

His transparent handling of the funds led to tensions within the NUP leadership, who were reportedly mismanaging similar funds, leading to accusations of corruption. As Ssegirinya’s health rapidly worsened, some of NUP leadership, including deputy spokesperson Alex Mufumbiro, even dismissed his illness as “faking sickness” which only fueled suspicions of foul play.

In response Alex Buwembo, Ssegirinya’s personal assistant vehemently denied these accusations, claiming that NUP’s actions were motivated by jealousy and a desire to control the political scene.

When Ssegirinya eventually recovered, he publicly rebuked the NUP leadership, even requesting that no NUP officials attend his thanksgiving events and barring Mufumbiro from his burial.

These allegations have raised serious questions about the ethics and motives within the NUP, calling into question the party’s commitment to democracy and transparency.
