The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has officially announced the National Conference for Traditional and Cultural Leaders, set to take place on January 16-17, 2025, at the Imperial Royal Hotel in Kampala.
The conference, centered on the theme “The Role of Traditional Cultural Leaders in Promoting Culture for Socio-Economic Development in Uganda,” was announced by Peace Regis Mutuuzo, the State Minister for Gender and Culture Affairs, during a media briefing at the Uganda Media Center on January 9, 2025.
She emphasized that the discussions would focus on the strategic role and contributions of traditional and cultural leaders in achieving the goals set for 2040. “The purpose of this meeting is to address negative cultural practices that undermine the dignity of vulnerable groups and minorities within our communities,” she stated.
She further emphasized that the dialogue will explore how government agencies can incorporate cultural and traditional leaders into national planning efforts aimed at transforming Uganda’s economy.
The conference, aimed at fostering partnerships between government and cultural leaders is set to enable them to play a significant role in Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
It is expected to draw a diverse group of participants, including cultural leaders, policymakers, academics, and NGOs, all committed to leveraging cultural heritage for positive change.
The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has expressed its commitment to making this conference a pivotal moment in Uganda’s journey towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.
