Government to Provide Free Land Titles to Over 600 Residents in Gomba District

The government is set to provide free land titles to over 600 residents in four villages who were previously evicted from their pieces of land in four villages in Kanoni Sub County of Gomba district. The villages include; Kitemu, Nkwale, Kasaka, and Koom.

John Fisher Kasenge Tom, a commissioner for the Land Fund in the Ministry of Lands revealed this yesterday June 05, 2024, at Kitemu village in Kanoni Town Council.

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development bought the land from one Peter Bakayimbudde who has been evicting residents and causing unrest in the four villages leading to the death of three people and injuring many.

According to Kasenge, the land titles will be officially handed to residents on Sunday, June 09, 2024, during the National Heroes Day Celebrations that will be held in Gomba District.

He also stressed that many landlords have frustrated the government’s efforts to buy off their land across the Buganda region and donate it to the bibanja holders.

David Ssenvuma, the Kasaka village chairperson, praised the government for the program giving back land ownership to the common people.

Districts that have benefited from the land fund in the Buganda region include; Mubende, Gomba, Mityana, Nakasongola, Luweero, Nakaseke, and more, he also rallied landlords with land that has tenants to reach out to Uganda Land Commission to buy it for the good for bibanja holders
