The National Policy Committee on Environment, which was chaired by Prime Minister Hon. Robinnah Nabbanja, has resolved to prohibit the export of timber and has revoked all licences and permits given in this regard in order to protect the country’s environment.

Nabanja explains that the government is terminating the impact assessment licences and permits for all investors since they have continuously collected forest products and exported them without adding value, yet that was the objective.

This follows a directive issued by President Yoweri Museveni on June 21, 2023, instructing the prime minister to take action to reverse the worrying trends of deforestation.
