The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed the arrest of four teachers accused of possessing and distributing fake Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers online.

Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, the UNEB Spokesperson, said on Monday that the teachers, who reportedly charged up to Shs750,000 per set of counterfeit papers, were found sharing them on social media.

“The police have arrested four teachers for unauthorized possession and online dissemination of fake PLE examination papers,” Kalule-Musamba said.

The suspects, identified as Bakashaba Vincent from Kimongole Primary School, Muheki Vincent of Vision Primary School, Pabeku Albert from Stoneridge Primary School, and Oyet Hosea of Dignatory Junior School, are currently in police custody.

Kalule noted that the suspects face charges under Section 25 of the UNEB Act, which criminalizes the unauthorized possession of examination materials.

“Any person who gains or attempts to gain possession of any examination paper or any part of an examination paper commits an offense and is liable to a fine not exceeding twenty million shillings or a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years,” she explained.

She further clarified that “the act covers both printed and electronic materials, as well as the transmission of these items.”

The Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) kicked off on Monday, November 4, 2024, with the briefing of candidates, and examinations will commence on November 6 and 7, 2024.
