Uganda Airlines has explained why it delayed paying the fuel supplier and attributed it to the policy of verifying fuel usage through technical logs rather than paying solely based on the supplier’s invoices.
MixJet Flight Support, a private company, recently threatened to withdraw services within 48 hours over an alleged $10 million debt.
In a statement released on Monday, November 4th, 2024, Uganda Airlines expressed disappointment over MixJet’s approach to publicizing the issue.
“The delay in payment is derived from Uganda Airlines’ insistence on paying based on fuel uplifts and tech logs, not just the supplier’s invoices,” it stated, mentioning past issues of inflated or erroneous charges.
“The airline assures the public, especially its guests, that its operations will continue unabated. Since its inception, the airline has contracted MixJet to supply fuel. From July 2019 to July 2024, the airline has made payments to MixJet valued at USD 140 million,” the statement noted.
“The amount due is approximately USD 8 million and not USD 10 million as claimed,” the statement added.
Earlier in 2021, Uganda Airlines had threatened to End Ties with Supplier Mixjet Over Fuel Debacle after two incidents where the carrier’s flights had been delayed at the Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam due to late delivery of fuel.
