πŸ“ŒPresident Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will tomorrow, Wednesday June 7, 2023 deliver the State of the Nation Address in accordance with the statutory duty under Article 101 (1) of the Constitution. The President will deliver the address to Parliament at Kololo Independence grounds at 2PM and it will be aired live on all radio and TV stations.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Fifty one people to receive Heroes Day medals- Minister Babalanda
πŸ“ŒFifty one people have been selected to receive medals on Heroes Day that will be commemorated on Friday June 9. This year’s Heroes Day celebrations will be held at Kasana Catholic Church grounds in Luweero District. The Minister for Presidency, Hon Milly Babalanda said that the chief guest will be President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Babalanda urged Ugandans and especially people in the Greater Luweero to attend the day.
“ThereΒ  will be a health camp that will offer free services such as male circumcision, HIV tests, blood donation, Cancer screening, and other health services. Also, now that the country is at peace, we should help our people get out of poverty through PDM and Emyooga programs,”Β  Babalanda said.
The day will be commemorated under the theme, β€˜Arise Uganda’.

πŸ“ŒPresident Museveni has hosted the wife of the Late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the former President of Tanzania, Mama Maria Nyerere at State House Nakasero together with a delegation from Tanzania. The President appreciated her for attending Nyerere beatification prayer day at Namugongo Catholic Shrine which takes place every year on 1st June.
β€œIt is always a pleasure to host Mama Maria Nyerere who called on me with a delegation from Tanzania this evening at State Lodge Nakasero”, President Museveni posted on Twitter.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Over 9000 police officers promoted to higher ranks
πŸ“ŒThe Inspector General of Police (IGP) John Martins Okoth Ochola has promoted 9312 officers to various ranks starting from June 01, 2023. In a statement issued by the Deputy Police Spokesperson CP Polly Namaye, the promotions were based on record of work, seniority, exemplary performance, discipline record and the officers in acting positions. The officers were promoted to positions that include Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) to Inspector of Police (IP) 1145, Head Constable Major (HCM) to Inspector (IP) 05, Head Constable (HC) to Head Constable Major (HCM) 03. Others are Station Sergeant to Head Constable 28, Sergeant (Sgt) to AIP 1531, Corporal (Cpl) to Sergeant 2644 and Police Constable to Corporal 3956.
β€œWe congratulate the officers and their families upon this well-deserved occasion of their promotion. We encourage them and other officers to continue serving the public diligently,” Namaye said.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Judiciary increases number ofΒ  chief magistrates in new deployments
πŸ“Œ The Judiciary has made new deployments to improve access to justice for the people so as to effectively administer justice. In an official statement from the Judiciary, the new deployments have seen the number of Deputy Registrars increase from 29 to 43, Assistant Registrars increase from 8 to 19, and Chief Magistrates increase from 71 to 91. Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo said that the recent appointments have enhanced access to justice by the people.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ Police investigates unlawful confinement of youths at Sheikh Kamoga’s home
πŸ“ŒThe Territorial Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which 32 male victims aged between 14 -28 were allegedly confined in the home of Sheikh Yunus Kamoga and secretly undergoing teachings in the Islamic Sharia Law. All the 32 victims were profiled as arrangements of re-uniting them with their parents and guardians continues. According Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, investigations into the matter commenced after one Sarah Nabbosa received a call from her son Mukiibi Barrack, an S.2 student at St Lawrence London College requesting her to plead with his father Twaha Mukiibi to withdraw him from the alleged Sharia Law School and take him back to school.
β€œThe motive of the secret training restricted to male youths and adults inside an enclosed facility, locked with 6 padlocks is yet to be established. As the Joint Security Agencies, we continue to monitor all spaces in homes, places of worship, which act as domains for recruitment and collection of teenagers and young adults who are radicalised and conscripted into the ADF,” Enanga said.

πŸ“Œ The Government has launched an online system that will track all public projects from their start to completion. The Integrated Bank of Projects (IBP) is a software that serves as a database for public project information from inception to closure. The system is intended to enable the successful delivery of projects within time and budgets. It links with other existing systems to enable the sharing of projects-related information. Rachael Sebbude, a senior economist at the World Bank, commended the Government for taking a decision to increase its assets and infrastructure to tackle some of the binding constraints.
β€œWe need a system to get good projects. When projects are not delivered it affects economic growth,’’ Sebudde said.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ MOROTO: Security warns public to surrender bows, arrows or risk arrest
πŸ“ŒJoint security forces have launched a vigorous operation targeting the use of bows and arrows, following an increase in civilian killings by suspected cattle rustlers in the Karamoja sub region. Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson expressed that many suspected warriors, having lost their firearms during the disarmament exercise, have resorted to using bows and arrows as dangerous weapons. He explained that these homemade weapons are often smeared with poisonous substances, making them even more lethal. Longole established that during their first patrol in Moroto municipality, the joint security team arrested six suspects in possession of 9 bows and 45 arrows.Β  He warned the community to surrender any bows and arrows to the security agencies to avoid becoming victims of the ongoing operations.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ KIKUUBE: District receives over 420,000 doses of Yellow Fever vaccine
πŸ“ŒKikuube District has received 422,000 doses of Yellow Fever Vaccine and 460 cards for a mass vaccination campaign in the district. The 5-day campaign scheduled to commence this week on Friday is aimed at stopping the transmission of the disease and is targeting a population of over 420,000 between ages of 9 months up to 60. Peter Byaruhanga, the Surveillance Focal Person explained that vaccination is going to take place at all the health centers, facility outreaches, churches and schools and the Immunization team will consist of over 445 health workers, VHTs and LC1 Chairpersons of the respective Villages.

πŸ“ŒKabale Resident District Commissioner, Andrew Ronald Bakaaki has promised to arrest and prosecute anybody found de-campaigning the planned mass vaccination campaign against the Yellow Fever Disease by the Ministry of Health through dissemination of wrong information. During the launch held at Kabale District Council Hall, the RDC said they have alerted all Gombolola Internal Security Officers and security agencies to arrest everybody found disseminating false messages to the public about the vaccine.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¬ NAKASEKE: Sand mining banned after discovery of body in sand pit
πŸ“ŒAuthorities in Nakaseke have banned sand mining following the discovery of a dead body in one of the sand mines. An unidentified body of a man was found in a sand mine at Luvunvu village in Kasambya Parish on May 30, 2023. The LC III Chairperson, Eric Migade informed Nakaseke Police Station about the incident. In light of these developments, Migadde wrote a letter to the Nakaseke Resident District Commissioner (RDC) on June 1, 2023, informing him about the ban on sand mining. He listed several banned sand mines located in the different areas, such as Luvunvu, Kyampisi, Butayunja, Kikwata, Kitaweera, and Butemula. Migadde also expressed concerns about the behaviour of the sand miners, including their involvement in drug abuse and alcohol misuse.

🌍 DRC: Uganda Contingent commander rallies stakeholders to work towards regional peace
πŸ“ŒThe Uganda contingent commander serving under the East African Regional Force (EACRF), Colonel Michael Walaka Hyeroba has rallied the various stakeholders to work with EACRF to restore peace in the territory in a meeting. He made the remarks duringΒ  his first meeting held on June 5, 2023 at the Community Baptist Church of Africa (CBCA) in Buturande village, Rutshuru territory, comprising of community local leaders, youth leaders, and the various religious sects in Rutshuru territory in North Kivu. The meeting is the first official security session with the various key community leaders since the occupation of the bases formerly vacated by the M23. He said that Uganda is a strong ally in the peace process and urged the public to promptly report any unlawful hate crimes that would incite unrest in the region.

🌍 SOUTH SUDAN: Three aid workers stripped, tortured
Three humanitarian workers attached to the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) were on Sunday attacked, stripped and tortured along the Lotome-Kikilai road in Budi County, Eastern Equatoria State of South Sudan. Eastern Equatoria State activist for women’s rights Amal Jane denounced attacks on aid workers and urged the Government to look into the matter and prosecute those responsible. The attack marks the latest in a series of escalating incidents targeting aid workers in the country. South Sudan is among the most dangerous places in the world for humanitarians, according to OCHA. Nine aid workers were reported killed last year.

🌍 SOUTH SUDAN: President Kiir sacks Finance Ministry Undersecretaries amid deepening economic woes
South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir on Monday fired two Undersecretaries of the Finance Ministry, Ochung Genes Karlo and Β  Angelo Deng Rehan amidst a rapid depreciation of the South Sudanese pound, although the Ministry of Finance has assured citizens that the rising cost of necessities, including food, would soon be under control.
β€œWe have discussed the depreciating exchange rate of our South Sudan Pound. We have reached a concrete solution of central bank availing sufficient dollars into the market to meet the needs of the market, the needs of the people looking for the foreign currency,” Finance MinisterΒ DierΒ TongΒ said.
