πΊπ¬ Deputy Speaker lobbies communities to join Malaria fight
πThe Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has called upon communities to join the fight against Malaria. He made the call as heΒ joined other Members of Parliament and citizens in a walk intended to raise awareness on the fight against the disease.
“We must mobilise our communities to join the war against Malaria,” he said.
According to Tayebwa, Uganda loses over shillings 2.4 trillion every year to Malaria and kills about 52 Ugandans daily.

πA team of talented teenagers from Young Engineers Uganda have jetted off to the United States of America on Sunday, April 23, 2023, to represent Uganda at the prestigious Vex World Robotics Championships (VWRC) in Dallas, Texas. The team consists of four girls and three boys, with three instructors. They secured Ugandaβs fourth position during the Pan African Robotics competition 2022 in Dakar, Senegal last year, earning them an invitation to participate in the World Robotic Championship in the United States. over 50 countries and 2,200 teams from all over the world are participating.
πΊπ¬ EAC recommends fishing holiday on Lake Victoria to boost stocks
πThe Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industries and Fisheries (MAAIF) has approved recommendations by representatives of the East African Community geared towards protecting Lake Victoria. Among the resolutions is a commitment to the implementation of previous council directives such as creating a fishing holiday on the shared lake to allow breeding for increased fish stocks. In the same meeting, the Minister of Agriculture Frank Tumwebaze received instruments of power from his Tanzanian counterpart as the new chairperson of the sectoral council of Ministers of Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation.

πΊπ¬ FORT PORTAL: Mob lynches 47 year old after killing brother over land
πFort Portal City residents allegedly lynched one Baguma Julius Achali, 47, a resident of Mukumbwe village in North Division of Fort Portal city, after he killed Kamihanda Wilson Baala, 53, his brother by hitting him with a hoe on the head over land argument. A neighbour who talked under anonymity explained that the two have been in disagreements over the terrace that separates their land. The two bodies have been taken by police for postmortem.
πΊπ¬ LIRA: Teaching Hospital receives medical equipment worth 200M
πLira University Teaching Hospital has received a consignment of medical equipment worth Shs 200 million from the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU) Programme. The medical equipment includes a CBC machine, ultrasound scanners, digital blood pressure machines, echocardiography machines, ECG machines, digital weighing machines, grinders and distilled water systems. DINU coordinator Dr. Bernard Omech said the equipment is expected to boost and strengthen the screening and management of malnutrition-related diseases at the teaching hospital.
πΊπ¬ AMUDAT: 200 girls trained to make reusable sanitary pads
πMore than 200 girls at Looro primary school in Amudat district have been trained to make reusable sanitary pads. The project has attracted many girls who make the pads from locally available materials such as fleece fabrics and towels which are very absorbent and comfortable. During an interview on Saturday, Tepe Ruth, one of the girls said that since she learned how to make reusable sanitary pads, her life has changed for the better.
πΊπ¬Β PAKWACH: Government to redesign Albert Nile bridge to address flooding
πThe Government will construct a new bridge on Albert Nile in Pakwach district to tackle persistent floods that often cut off traffic along the Olwiyo-Pakwach road. According to Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport, the proposed new bridge will replace the current Pakwach bridge which was built in the 1960s to connect the railway to the West Nile region.

Dr Richard Atuhaire, the in charge of Bwizibwera Health centre IV received the equipment on behalf of the facility. They included eight blood pressure machines, four weighing scales, and four pulse machines.

πFire has gutted a home in Kikooza village in Mukono Municipality, killing a nine months old baby, Nansubuga Aiserah. Margaret Nnalongo, the mother, allegedly left three children in the house; a three year old, Ariah Nabulome and a seven year old brother. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire from a candle caughtΒ a mosquito net before it spread further.

πPolice at Kito village in Mityana district has arrested a woman who has been torturing her biological daughter. Residents say the woman has been beating the child several times as well as locking her in the house. The victim was found with torture marks and fresh wounds allover the body. The suspect is detained at Mityana police as investigations continue.

π MALI: Blasts kill and injure dozens as 88 terrorists are put out of action
πTen civilians and three soldiers were killed in a number of incidents across Mali on Saturday. The attacks began with car bombs near Sevare airport which killed 10 people and injured 61 others. They also destroyed some houses in the airportβs surrounding area, which is home to a Malian military camp. The government says 88 jihadists were put out of action in what they are describing as a resurgence of terrorist incidents.
