πΊπ¬Β Uganda to resume exporting dairy products to Kenya after ban lift
πUganda will resume exporting its dairy products to Kenya after Kenya Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development on Wednesday lifted the ban on the importation of dairy products which it had imposed earlier this month. The lift was announced by Harry Kamtai, the Principal Secretary to the Ministry in a letter copied to all dairy products importers in Kenya.
βTake note that, Importation of products under the East African Community (EAC) protocol refers to goods being imported from outside the East African Community, while goods traded within EAC are referred to as transfers,β reads part of the statement.
The Kenya Dairy Board had said the ban was intended to protect its local farmers from external products, as they anticipated an increase in their output. Kenya is Ugandaβs primary milk market, but persistent barriers have prompted a search for new markets.
πΊπ¬ Speaker tasks Public Service Minister on fate of former REA staff
πThe Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has directed the State Minister for Public Service, Hon. Mary Mugasa to present a report to Parliament on the fate of former staff of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) who were affected by a merger. Amongβs directive came during the plenary sitting of Tuesday, March 14, 2023, after Members of Parliament were concerned by “the harsh conditions that former staff of the two entities are facing. Legislators said that staff were neither retired as required by the law nor transferred to other agencies as earlier advised by Parliament.

πThe Traffic Police and Road Safety Directorate has warned motorists against being reckless during this rainy season. The Traffic Directorate Spokesperson Faridah Nampiima says motorists should avoid driving through running water and ensure their vehicles are in good condition.

π The Federation of Motorsport in Uganda has organised a memorial event in memory of the late Speaker Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah. The event, dubbed the Memorial Autocross and Enduro Challenge, will take place on March 25, 2023 in Omoro. The Uganda Bikers Association in which Oulanyah was a member will bike from Kampala on March 24, 2023 to Omoro as they raise awareness for road safety.
πΊπ¬ Two year old boy drowns in trench in Kampala
πA two year-old boy on Tuesday drowned in a trench of water during the heavy downpour. Police says the incident happened in Bulabira, Najjera where the deceased boy, Bostiline Ainebyoona, was left under the care of two people who were identified as Charles Makumbi and Clare Asiimwe.
βAinebyoona drowned during the rain and the child’s mother is working abroad. The caretaker, Asiimwe alleges that the deceased was playing with other children inside the house and while sheΒ washed clothes in the house. She said that she doesn’t know how the deceased sneaked outside and yet just at the doorsteps there is a trench, and it was flooded,β said the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.

πA 24 year old woman who went missing on the eve of her wedding day has reported herself at Nsangi Police Station. According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, Bushira Najjuuko, a resident of Katereke Kyengera town said that she was not interested in the man the family wants her to get married but she is rather interested in another man whom the family doesnβt want.Β Onyango warned parents against forcing children into marriage.
πΊπ¬ KIKUUBE: 25 year-old arrested for marrying 15-year-old juvenile
πA 25 year-old man identified as Caleb Ainomugisha from Manwiiga Village in Kyangwali Sub County in Kikuube District has been arrested for marrying a 15 year-old girl identified as Atukwase Lillian. The two have been living together for two years in Bugoma forest. Kikuube RDC, Herman Tumusiime faulted the National Forest Authority for not monitoring forest reserves.

π The Resident District Commissioner, Rachael Nkoko has confirmed that Golden Heart Nursery and Primary School Director Boney Owori has been arrested following the incident where three pupils were killed and three others severely injured after they were buried by a collapsing classroom wall. The children were in the process overpowered by the weakened walls of a semi-permanent building they were pushing down, reportedly on the instructions of Owori.

π KENYA: US grants Kenya over $100M for Water and Sanitation
πThe US Ambassador to Kenya announced on Monday that Washington will grant over $100 Million to the East African nation to improve access to safe drinking water sanitation and hygiene services. The Ambassador said the US will be granting funds through its Global Water Strategy High Priority Country Plan for Kenya that will address the urgent need for clean water over five years.βAs I have travelled around Kenya, I ask government officials and community members, what are your priorities and the number one priority almost universally is water,β Whitman said.
π TANZANIA: President Samia forms council to oversee Food and Agriculture
π President Samia Suluhu Hassan has formed a Presidential Food and Agriculture Delivery Council which will be in charge of overseeing the countryβs food and agriculture delivery compacts implementation. Suluhu also appointed former Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda to lead the council with two other council members and three members of its secretariat. The formation of the Council is part of the agreement reached at the Dakar 2 Summit on Feed Africa, Food Sovereignty and Resilience that took place in Dakar, Senegal from January 25-27 this year.
π Kenya-Italy to scrap Non-Tariff BarriersΒ
πKenya and Italy have agreed to remove non-tariff barriers in their bid to stimulate trade and investment. The two countries said they will negotiate on the avoidance of a double-taxation agreement that will usher in higher levels of foreign direct investments. While Speaking on Tuesday at State House during a State visit by President Sergio Mattarella of Italy, President William Ruto disclosed that they had shared views about opportunities to improve the balance of trade between the two countries. The cooperation will be in the areas of agro-industrial, ICT and bio-fuel projects said Ruto
