πΊπ¬ President Museveni on one-day official visit to South Africa
πPresident Yoweri Museveni is in South Africa for a one-day official visit and will hold bilateral talks and discuss other continental issues with his counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa. He will also address an ongoing Trade, Tourism and Investment summit.
“President Museveni’s visit is directed at consolidating bilateral relations between the two countries, with discussions between the two Heads of State encompassing political, economic, regional, continental and international issues,” the Office of the President of South Africa said in an earlierΒ statement.
πΊπ¬ President Museveni pledges support for model farmer in Gulu District
πPresident Yoweri Museveni has pledged to support James Ocan, a model farmer in Paicho sub-county, Gulu district, who is practicing a four acre- farming model, with an irrigation pump. The pledge came as the President visited Ocanβs farm at Wii Gweng village, Kal Ali B parish. Ocan is one of the successful farmers of the four acre-model.

πFour students suspected of masterminding the fire that gutted a dormitory block at Kyamate Secondary School in Ntungamo Municipality have been arrested. Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson says the suspects are all Senior Three students who were picked up after being named by their colleagues. Police is still hunting for Tumushabe Wilber, the prime suspect accused of tying to the bed,Β one Bonus Ankwatireire,Β before he set the dormitory block ablaze killing Ankwatireire. Tumushabe had been suspended on 22/02/2023 from the school for indiscipline and bullying students.

πPupils of Genesis Nursery and Primary School Kekubo in Kabale Municipality were gripped with shock as they watched their teacher, Christopher Ochet, 27 drown in Lake Bunyonyi. Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate says pupils alleged that the teacher had takrn them for a morning jog, but diverted to swim in Lake Bunyonyi. The children saw the teacher struggling before he disappeared in the lake.

πEthiopian community in Uganda have commemorated the 127th anniversary of the βBattle of Adwaβ which marks Ethiopiaβs victory over Italy. Sara Melese, the head of Public Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs at the Ethiopian Embassy in Uganda says that they celebrate 1896 as historic victory over Italy in Adwa, as Italy tried to expand its colonial territory in the Horn of Africa. The event happened at the Ethopian Embassy in Kampala.

πPolice in Gulu District have arrested a man for allegedly killing his daughterβs 16-year-old boyfriend. Police have identified the suspect as Ben Angol, 37, who reportedly murdered a one Daniel Okema, 16, after he allegedly caught the teenager red-handed having sexual relations with his daughter. According to the Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the suspect mobilised his accomplices and stormed the boyβs home after learning that his daughter had sneaked out of the house at night.

πLIRA: A man has succumbed to burn injuries sustained after a suspected arson attack in Lira City. Charles Ogwal Kali, 49, a resident of Barogole, Lira City West Division was on the night of Saturday sleeping in the house of his girlfriend, Winnie Agora, when they were attacked by a suspected arsonist. The duo sustained serious burns and were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s emergency unit for treatment. According to residents of Blue Corner North in West Division where the incident happened,Β a man had earlier in the day threatened to harm Agora and they suspect it is him behind the arson.

πTwo fishermen identified as Wabiya Kitika, 26 and Opio David, residents of Kirimunsege village, Kasiira Parish in Kidera Subcounty drowned in Lake Kyoga at Nfumagani fishing site. According to eye witnesses, the duo drowned as result of the bad weather. Eye witnessed say their boat βBao Tatuβ was also substandard. Police is working to recover the bodies.

πPresident William Ruto has appointed a seven-member selection panel to recruit new commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The move comes two weeks after the President declared vacancies at the electoral body, following the signing of the IEBC (Amendment) Bill 2022 into law last month. The panel comprises representatives of the Parliamentary Service Commission, the Public Service Commission, the Political Parties Liaison Committee, the Law Society of Kenya, and the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya.

πFormer Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the countryβs electoral body to save the country from βa looming dangerβ over what he described as corruption of the electoral process. According to a statement, he said tension was building up and asked President Buhari Muhammadu to let all elections that do not pass the credibility and transparency test to be cancelled. He said the Independent Electoral Commissionβs (INEC) decision to revert to the use of a manual transmission of results was deliberate despite spending a lot money to introduce an electronic system that would allow immediate transmission of results from polling units.
