πPresident Museveni has started a countrywide tour and mobilisation on wealth creation and the Parish Development Model (PDM). While addressing leaders from all the districts of the Acholi sub region at Bar-Dege grounds in Gulu City, the President said that the PDM should help beneficiaries to generate wealth since it has very clear guidelines.

πNational Environment Management Authority will prosecute lorry owners and drivers who dump soils in wetlands. According to a memo, lorry/truck drivers are contracted to backfill wetlands which is against the law under National environment Act. Drivers, owners and contractors once caught dumping on the unauthorised wetland will be charged and lorries actioned.
πΊπ¬ UPDF completes works on 3 health projects in Namutumba District
π Thomas Matende, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has said that Uganda Peopleβs Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade has completed the construction of three of the seven health projects in Namutumba District at Shs157M. The completed projects include placenta pits at Kiranga Health Centre II in Kibaale sub county and Nangonde Health Centre II in Nangonde Town Council and the OPD at Kisumu Health Centre II.

πThe Ministry of Health has embarked on a massive distribution of mosquito nets across the country next month. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health says that the campaign worth USD 120 Million is aimed at controlling the spread of malaria. Dr. Aceng received a cheque of 160 million shillings from Malaria Free Uganda.

π Lawrence Nuwabiine, the Director of Traffic has directed that all passenger service vehicles should have symbols on their vehicles to help in quick identification of the routes they operate on. Nuwabiine says that every road and route will get its own colour as a form of identification to differentiate them from others.
πΊπ¬ EU advocates for lasting solution to refugee crisis
πEuropean Union ambassadors have pledged that their countries will continue providing financial support to Uganda to address the humanitarian challenges in various refugee camps. Jan Sadek, the head of the EU delegation said that the union is advocating for a lasting solution to the refugee crisis. The ambassadors were visiting Nyakabande Transit Centre in Kisoro District to assess the refugee situation. Uganda hosts more than one million refugees from various countries which include DRC, South Sudan, and Burundi among others.

This was during the 13th graduation ceremony on Thursday where over 400 students graduated with certificates, diplomas and degrees in various disciplines at the University headquarters in Kampala.

πFollowing his kidnapping and murder in Kenya, the family of former Manafwa District Health Officer Dr. Gideon Simiyu Wamasebu, 62, has called for justice to be served. Former Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Michael Wamasebu, a brother of the deceased, said as a family, they would appoint a representative to attend the trial of the suspected murderer to ensure that justice is served. This was during Wamasebu’s requiem mass at St. Austin Church in Mbale City.

πPolice in Kiira region has mounted search for a 28-year-old man only identified as Salim, over the death of his estranged girlfriend, Mary Asio, 25, who was stabbed outside her parentsβ house in Katende cell, in Northern Division of Jinja City. Salim on Wednesday allegedly stabbed Asio six times in different parts of the body.

πResidents in Kashasha Town Council are in shockΒ after stray dogs invaded the area and killed a score of animals. Residents have resorted to hunting the wandering dogs after killing 12 animals including goats and sheep so far. They appeal to authorities to kill them before they bite humans.

πThe Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Katakwi District, Nuwabigaba John Patrick has terminated the contract of Sanitation Africa Limited constructing Toromo Seed Secondary School over substandard work. In a letter to the managing director, Nuwabigaba said that the company blatantly failed to correct mistakes that they were advised to correct on January 23, during a monitoring visit and site meeting.

π Uganda remains top Regional Tourism source market – report
Uganda has for another year retained its spot as Kenyaβs biggest tourism source market in the region according to new data released by tourism authorities in Nairobi. The data is contained in the new Kenyaβs tourism sector performance report for 2022 released at the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi by the countryβs Tourism Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza.
π KENYA: Ban on gay rights group unlawful β CourtΒ
πKenyaβs Supreme Court has ruled that it was wrong for the authorities to ban the gay community from registering a rights organisation. In a split decision, majority of the judges ruled that Kenyaβs NGO board should have allowed the registration of a LGBTQ group, called National Gays and Lesbians Human Rights Commission which it had blocked in 2013. The judges said the constitution guaranteed the right to association and that the NGO board should not deny the registration of an association purely based on the sexual orientation of the applicants, or because it has the word gay or lesbian in it.
π ETHIOPIA: Seven die as drought ravages Horn of AfricaΒ
πAt least seven people have died from starvation in Borena area in southern Ethiopia following severe drought. Dhenge Wario, a district administrator in the zone in Oromia region close to the countryβs border with neighbouring Kenya, said among those dead were a two-month-old baby and elderly people.
βPeople are not eating food for many days. Their cattle are all dead,β he said.

πSuspected Islamist militants have killed at least 12 people in central Maliβs Mopti region. Officials said gunmen burst into a village in Cercle de Bankass, shot at people, burnt homes and then chased those trying to flee into nearby forests. One official said as many as 19 bodies had been found and the search for more victims was continuing.

Paris-based FATF said the two countries were added to its list following a review.
