πΊπ¬ KCCA commences City road works
πConstruction and maintenance works on most City roads undertaken by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) have commenced. Maintenance works started with Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, 5th Street, Gabba road Junction and Queenβs way.Β Speaking to the press during the inspection at Sir Apollo Kaggwa road, KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka revealed that there is still need for local leaders to help KCCA in inspecting the ongoing works.
βWe need your cooperation. Since the forward maintenance is done in your area, you need to work hand in hand to see this work doneβ, Kisaka said.

πThe National Resistance Movement (NRM) head of mobilization, Rosemary Seninde, has said the party is optimistic about winning the Serere County by-election slated on February 23. πThe permanent secretary to office of the Prime Minister, Keith Muhakanizi has warned the general public onΒ involvement in selling relief items destined to help people in need. He further noted that all the relief items given out are marked with βOPMβ sign, therefore whoever is seen trading in such relief items should be arrested and prosecuted as the law stipulates. This follows the arrest of a top official’s family members over allegations that they were selling relief items in Karamoja.

π Ambassador Ismail Ayobami Alatise, the Nigerian High Commissioner has been so impressed by what he has seen while visiting stalls at the on-going Harvest Money Expo in Lugogo. The ambassador who tested Volcano Ugandan coffee at the expo said that he has been in Uganda for five months, but so far, Ugandan coffee is excellent. He stated that his looking forward to seeing how Uganda can penetrate the Nigerian market to sell their agricultural products and increase the level of interactions between the two countries.
“I have had the privilege of tasting Ugandan coffee and I can confirm that it is very good. It is more natural compared to the Nestle that I am used to back home in Nigeria,β Amb Ayobami said.

πThe Education Minister, Janet Museveni has reiterated Governmentβs commitment to supporting Makerere University towards achieving its goal of becoming a research-led institution. The HonourableΒ Minister said this on Monday while virtually presiding over Makerereβs 73rd graduation ceremony. Addressing the graduates, Janet Museveni said that as Government, they are ready to support Makerere to improve its research and science strategy.
βThe Government is committed to supporting efforts to improve the research and learning environment and to turn Makerere University into a research-led institution, with the resources available,β she said.

πHundreds of pilgrims have set off for the 150km journey to Kitgum in commemoration of Saint Janani Luwum’s life. The pilgrims started their journey yesterday from St Phillips Cathedral in Gulu City, proceeding to Mucwini in Kitgum. While beginning their pilgrimage, the Christians sang songs of praise in remembrance of their hero Luwum. Rev. Cissy Akello, one of the committee members of the pilgrimage, said they were about 120-foot pilgrims and that they expect to walk for seven days to Mucwini.

πThe Government of Uganda has planned to establish official residences for high-ranking government officials to enable effective discharge of their duties. The first people to benefit will be the Vice President, Speaker of Parliament and Prime Minister. The State Minister for Housing, Persis Namuganza revealed that the move is aimed at easing the work of the officials as opposed to conducting business in their private residences. Namuganza said that the proposal is before Cabinet and still subject to discussion and approval before it is presented to Parliament.

πThree people have been severely injured in an accident in Masaka City after a speeding vehicle, which was trying to overtake several cars, rammed into a motorcycle carrying three people. Richard Komakech, the Greater Masaka Regional Traffic Police Officer said the accident happened at Tropic Inn Hotel. The three, whose legs were broken, have been rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital as investigations continue.

πThe Chief Justice of Rwanda, Faustin Ntezilyayo, has said that fighting corruption has to be in Rwandansβ DNA so that people understand there is no room for any type of bribery or fraudulent behaviour.
βFighting corruption is not an event. Instead, basing on our countryβs vision, it has to be in our DNA,β he said on Monday, during a press conference at the Supreme Court premises in Kigali as he launched the anti-corruption week.

π Equatorial Guinea confirms Marburg Virus outbreakΒ
πThe authorities in Equatorial Guinea on Monday said the country had reported its first outbreak of the Marburg Virus, a highly infectious disease. Nine people are suspected to have died from the viral haemorrhagic fever in the countryβs western Kie Ntem province. This is the first outbreak recorded in the country and the third in West Africa. The World Health Organization says 16 people are now under quarantine as suspected contact cases. The health body has deployed a team of experts to the area to support health workers. Movement has been restricted around two villages where most cases have been reported. Contact tracing is currentlyΒ ongoing.
